Zermatt - Gornergrat Point to Point

• The mountain summit viewing platform is open year-round. For hiking or casual walks, we recommend visiting Rotenboden to enjoy the mirror-like lake reflections!
• Recommended Route: Take the cogwheel train from Zermatt to Riffelberg, hike from Riffelberg to Rotenboden (approx. 1–2 hrs), then ride the train from Rotenboden to Gornergrat, and finally descend from Gornergrat to Zermatt by train.
• Want to enjoy food with a view? Restaurants are available at Riffelberg, Gornergrat, and Riffelalp.
• In case of adverse weather, Gornergrat Railway reserves the right to suspend operations. Refunds will be processed according to policy. Please check the official announcement before your trip.
• Optional: Priority boarding (3 minutes early) available for purchase. For the best views, sit on the right-hand side facing the direction of travel. Priority boarding tickets are non-refundable and non-exchangeable.
• When booking, please inform your travel consultant of your travel date and route.
• You may freely hop on and off in the same direction within the route you purchased. For example, with a return ticket Zermatt–Gornergrat, you may descend from Gornergrat to Rotenboden, hike to Riffelberg, and then take the train back to Zermatt.

Construction Notice: November 2nd to 14th, 2026 and November 8th to 19th, 2027. During the shutdown, there are no alternative transportation options to the Gornegrat Viewpoint.

【 Hiking】
 

For a light hike, we recommend descending from Rotenboden (2,815m) to Riffelberg (2,582m) — an easy downhill walk of about 1 hour. Along the way, you’ll pass Riffelsee Lake, which, on a clear day, offers beautiful reflections of the Matterhorn. After your hike, enjoy a meal at the Riffelberg restaurant. 【Photo Spot】

In 2024, the new Golden Spot photo point was unveiled. Against the Matterhorn backdrop stands the historic He 2/2 3003 train engine — one of the original three Gornergrat cogwheel trains, now fully restored and gilded. It’s located prominently at the summit and open to all visitors free of charge year-round.

• Ticket prices vary depending on your travel date. Please select your departure date on the booking calendar.
• Class: Standard class only
• STS Discount: Adults with a Swiss Travel Pass (STP) or Swiss Half-Fare Card (HFC) are eligible for discounted tickets. A travel day must be used for STP.
• No disability discounts available; standard adult fare applies.

【Zermatt Shuttle】 

Designed specifically for self-drive travelers. Zermatt is a completely car-free village where fuel-powered vehicles are strictly prohibited. Travelers driving to Zermatt must park their vehicles at the Matterhorn Terminal Täsch at the foot of the mountain and transfer to the Zermatt Shuttle, which takes you directly to Zermatt in just 12 minutes.

• Seamless Connections & Frequent Departures: Trains run every 20 minutes between Täsch and Zermatt from early morning until late at night, offering maximum travel flexibility.
• Direct Access to Gornergrat Railway: Upon arrival at Zermatt Station, the Gornergrat Railway station is located directly across the street—no hassle with luggage, allowing you to easily ascend to view the Matterhorn.
• Pass Discounts: Free admission with the Swiss Travel Pass; enjoy a 50% discount with the Swiss Half-Fare Card.

• Included in the ticket price: Local tour leader, welcome drink and snacks at Monte Rosa, round-trip train ticket to the summit in Zermatt, guaranteed window seat, exclusive photo spots, four-course lunch at Riffelalp (with wine), and souvenir.
• Not eligible for STS discounts. 

• This ticket can be used directly; no exchange required. Just present the QR code to board.
• This is a day ticket, valid only for use on the selected date.
• If staying overnight at Gornergrat, your return trip ticket is valid within 10 days from the departure date.
• Priority boarding is only available for Zermatt-bound uphill journeys. When booking, please specify your desired train departure time in the remarks.
• Notice: Due to maintenance requirements, train services will be suspended during the following periods.
