The Five Scenic Trains of Switzerland
After arriving at Zurich Airport, you can easily take a train directly to Luzern. Known as Switzerland’s romantic city, Luzern is both elegant and modern. Stroll along the cobblestone streets in the Old Town, browsing through unique shops one after another, and don’t miss the beautiful murals painted on the walls in the alleys.
When you feel tired, enjoy a cup of coffee by Lake Luzern and take in the postcard-worthy scenery. The famous Chapel Bridge sits beside the lake, with its painted panels telling Luzern’s touching historical stories. If you happen to come across a local market, don’t miss the chance to join the locals for some treasure hunting and fun.
Surrounded by mountains and water, Luzern is home to Lake Luzern and near Mount Pilatus, the “Queen of the Mountains” Mount Rigi, and Mount Titlis which rises to 3,020 meters. This area is often called “the heart of Switzerland.” We strongly recommend visiting one of these nearby mountain ranges during your stay.
Besides these classic attractions, you can also relax at the bathing areas while enjoying views of Pilatus and the Luzern Culture and Congress Centre, or take an adventurous dive from the diving tower at Luzern Lido into the refreshing cool water. Ufschötti Park offers nearly 200 meters of sandy beach and a large grassy area where locals gather for barbecues and sports. If the weather is nice, find a summer bar you like to enjoy ice cream, soda, or snacks. For a cool summer activity, try canoeing on Lake Luzern!
If you think climbing the 4,000-meter-high Matterhorn is cool, then fulfill your dream at the Swiss Museum of Transport in Luzern. With VR and 360° film technology, it will leave you with unforgettable memories!
Mount Rigi is connected by Europe’s oldest mountain railway between Arth-Goldau and Vitznau, and by an aerial cableway to Weggis. The mountain offers numerous hiking trails, making it a must-visit for travelers looking to immerse themselves in nature. Transportation : Take a boat to Vitznau, then transfer to the cogwheel railway up the mountain. For the return journey, take the aerial cableway down to Weggis, then board a boat back to Lucerne. The entire route is covered by the Swiss Travel Pass.
In 2022, the Swiss Travel Pass allows free access to Stanserhorn. Located above Lake Lucerne, Switzerland, Stanserhorn stands at an elevation of 1,898 meters. From here, you can overlook 10 beautiful lakes, the 100-kilometer stretch of the Alps, and views spanning three countries. Taking the nostalgic mountain funicular up the mountain is already a charming experience, and then you can continue your journey by riding the world’s first open-top double-decker cable car, the CabriO Cable Car.
In 2022, the Swiss Travel Pass allows free rides on this cable car. Stoos is a car-free village located on the slopes of Fronalpstock mountain. The cable car from Schwyz to Stoos took 14 years to build and overcomes the world’s steepest gradient for a mountain cable car. The four cylindrical cabins with yellow-framed exteriors are especially eye-catching. To reach the summit, you can take the cable car from Stoos up to either Fronalpstock or Klingenstock. Hiking enthusiasts can also challenge this route.
After breakfast, take a leisurely train ride from Luzern passing through the Brünig Pass en route to Interlaken. Along the way, you’ll pass the famous woodcarving village of Brienz. Nestled between mountains and lakes, Interlaken is an Alpine town that combines traditional wooden chalets with a modern commercial area. The lively town center offers vibrant nightlife, while just outside the center, travelers can enjoy the classic serene Swiss mountain and lake scenery.
From Interlaken, we’ll head to the renowned Jungfrau region. From Interlaken Ost station, take the train via Grindelwald or Wengen to Kleine Scheidegg at the foot of the Eiger North Face. From there, board the Jungfrau Railway to Jungfraujoch (the “Top of Europe,” at 3,454 meters, the highest railway station in Europe) to admire the longest Aletsch Glacier in the Alps! You can also hop off at stops along the way for hiking and experiencing the Alpine scenery.
We stay two nights in Interlaken. You can also choose to take a BLS ferry ride on Lake Brienz, free with Swiss Travel Pass.
On your day to Jungfraujoch, we recommend trying the new Eiger Express cable car from Grindelwald Terminal to the Jungfrau summit. It takes only 15 minutes, greatly reducing travel time to the peak. The cabin features special heated glass and seats, ensuring a comfortable and clear panoramic view of the Jungfrau mountain area all the way up.
During this two-hour journey, passengers will pass by crystal-clear lakes, romantic waterfalls, and traverse the dramatic Brünig Pass. Thanks to panoramic windows, you'll enjoy some of the most spectacular views of the Swiss Alps along the way.
A Renaissance within the Renaissance! This building and its surrounding structures date back to 1348. Originally a residence, it was transformed into an estate in 1638. The current building was constructed in 1852. Over time, the castle has served as a military museum, a medical center, and more. After a major renovation in 2017, it reopened in June 2019. The castle is also a popular venue for weddings!

Looking for a unique challenge? “Via” means route, and “Ferrata” means iron rope. Experienced climbers can rent equipment in the village of Mürren and explore on their own. Beginners can join guided group tours, available from June to October. The cost is about 200 CHF per person. For bookings, please contact your travel consultant. Via Ferrata video

The Brienz Rothorn Bahn (BRB) is a century-old steam rack railway in Switzerland, located in the Bernese Oberland. It climbs from the village of Brienz up to the summit of the Brienzer Rothorn mountain.
It typically operates only between June and October each year. The one-way journey from the base to the summit takes about one hour.
The terminus, Rothorn Kulm (at an altitude of 2,244 meters), features a summit restaurant and a viewing platform, and serves as the starting point for various high-altitude hiking trails. It's one of the best spots to view the major peaks of the Bernese Oberland. On clear days, you can clearly see the famous trio of Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau. It's said that on days with excellent visibility, the panorama encompasses more than 690 peaks, including Mount Pilatus in the distance.

Take the train through the Lötschberg Base Tunnel directly to Visp, where you'll transfer trains to reach Zermatt.
The itinerary includes a Zermatt Peak Pass, which allows you to visit 3 mountain peaks in 2 days: Gornergrat, Rothorn, Matterhorn Glacier Paradise.
