Travel route

The Sils-Furtschellas Cable Car, your gateway to the "Water Trail" (Wasserweg), is more than just a means of transport — it is the breathtaking opening chapter of your Upper Engadine alpine adventure.

Furtschellas Cable Car : The Shortcut to the "Balcony of the Engadine"
This iconic large red cable car connects the charming village of Sils Maria with the Furtschellas Middle Station (Mittelstation). It serves as the premier gateway for exploring the western flank of the majestic Corvatsch region.

Highlights of the Journey

  • A Tale of Two Lakes : As the cable car ascends, a stunning panorama of Lake Sils and Lake Silvaplana unfolds behind you. Nestled deep within the valley, these two lakes—each with its own unique shade of blue—offer the most famous "postcard view" in the St. Moritz region.
  • Modern Design & Comfort : Reimagined in 2021, the spacious cabins feature floor-to-ceiling panoramic windows, offering unobstructed views of the peaks. The ride is so smooth and stable it creates the enchanting sensation of "gliding" through the mountains.

Pro Tips for Your Journey

  • Go Counter-Clockwise : Most hikers prefer the counter-clockwise route. You’ll start with a brief, steeper ascent (approx. 200m incline), but you’ll be quickly rewarded by the first lake, Lejin Cristal.
  • Gear Up : While the paths are well-maintained, alpine weather can change in a heartbeat. We recommend sturdy hiking boots with good grip, a windproof jacket, and sun protection.
  • Opening Hours : The summer season typically runs from late June to late October. Please check the current cable car operating status before heading out.
