What Is the Swiss Half Fare Card?

The Swiss Half Fare Card is not a train ticket—you can’t simply board a train with it alone (doing so could result in a fine!). Think of it as unlocking a valuable travel discount: for one month, you’ll get 50% off trains, boats, postal buses, and most mountain cable cars across Switzerland.

Unlike the Swiss Travel Pass, however, you’ll need to buy a ticket each time you travel—whether it’s for a train, cable car, ferry, or bus.

Pass Coverage

With the Swiss Half Fare Card, you’ll receive 50% off train, boat, postal bus, and most mountain cable car tickets when purchasing locally. However, some special routes in Switzerland may not follow a strict 50% discount, so it's important to confirm the fare at the time of purchase or consult a travel advisor for accurate pricing.

Important: Be sure to select the first day of use before purchasing your Swiss Half Fare Card. If no date is selected, the card may default to being valid immediately on the day of purchase—so double-check your start date carefully.

Terms of Use

Validity: The Swiss Half Fare Card is valid for one month from the start date.

Swiss Family Card: Children under 16 years old (no limit on number) traveling with a parent, stepparent, or legal guardian (at least one adult) are eligible for a free Swiss Family Card, which grants free travel on most public transport. For trains requiring seat reservations, a reservation fee must still be paid. The Family Card itself is free of charge, but a EUR 10 ticketing service fee applies upon issuance.

The pass is available only to non-residents of Switzerland or Liechtenstein who do not hold a residence permit valid for six months or longer.

When purchasing, please select your travel start date — valid only for departures within six months of purchase.
The "First Day of Use" you selected will be printed on your pass at the time of ticket issuance.

Purchases made directly through the GoByTrain website do not incur any ticketing service fee. If you prefer manual ticket issuance by a travel consultant, an additional service fee starting from EUR 10 will apply.
Refunds are only available for completely unused passes.

Refund requests must be submitted at least three (3) business days before the first day of validity. A 100% refund of the ticket price will be issued. No refund or exchange will be accepted after this deadline. Business days exclude weekends and national holidays.

The above refunds do not include the original ticketing service fee (if any). All refunds are subject to a handling fee of TWD 400 per ticket.

The Swiss Half Fare Card is a valuable document. In the event of loss or theft, it cannot be reissued or refunded, whether activated or not. Please keep your pass safe at all times, just as you would with cash or important travel documents.

In the event of strikes, train delays, service interruptions, or baggage loss/theft, neither Swiss Travel System nor its partner railways can be held responsible for any resulting costs or damages. If such incidents occur, please follow the relevant exchange or refund policies and contact your travel consultant for assistance.

If your flight is cancelled due to personal reasons, typhoons, or other external factors, and it happens to fall on a public holiday or non-business day when refunds cannot be processed before the pass activation date, no refund will be accepted.
