From Geneva, take a 1h 58m train to Sierre/Siders, then transfer to the mountain cogwheel train for about 14 minutes to reach Montana Gare. From there, you can take a bus to your accommodation or to nearby ski villages.

The cogwheel train passes through beautiful vineyards on the way up. Compared with Saas-Fee or other resorts, Crans-Montana offers more options for shopping and dining. During winter, local buses within the town are free of charge. The ski area is generally divided into four zones:

  • Aminona – known for freeride terrain (you can stay in mountain huts or even learn cheese making)
  • Violetta – more advanced terrain (located next to the Plaine Morte glacier)
  • Montana – family-friendly (ice rink, kids’ facilities, and night skiing every Saturday)
  • Crans – higher-end area (wakeboarding, golfing, and designer shopping)

The local transportation company SMC operates the region with the mindset of creating a “giant playground”, offering not only skiing but a wide range of activities for all ages—hiking areas for seniors, parties for young visitors, and more. A snow park has been built to bring fresh energy to the resort, and nearby restaurants allow visitors to watch the action and enjoy the atmosphere.

Local talents—such as professional snowboarder and musician Patrick Burgener—often bring inspiration from international competitions back to Crans-Montana, helping the community grow and innovate.

Montana

Montana is part of the popular Crans-Montana resort area, offering easy access, a relaxed atmosphere, and a wide variety of winter activities. Reached by a scenic cogwheel train from Sierre, the town features family-friendly ski zones, night skiing, an ice rink, and plenty of dining and shopping options. It’s an ideal destination for combining skiing with a comfortable holiday experience.
