Monte San Salvatore Funicular Round-Trip

Monte San Salvatore rises above Paradiso, just outside Lugano. Its distinctive rounded, sugar-loaf silhouette gave it the nickname "Switzerland's Sugar Loaf Mountain," and it's one of the most iconic funicular rides on Lake Lugano.

From Paradiso, the century-old funicular — running since 1890 — climbs to the summit in about 12 minutes. At the top you'll find a centuries-old chapel, a museum, and the Ristorante Vetta, with 360-degree views over Lake Lugano and the Po Valley, extending to the peaks of the Swiss and Savoy Alps.

Once you reach the top, don't rush back down. Ristorante Vetta serves Mediterranean cuisine behind floor-to-ceiling windows and a retractable glass roof, turning the dining room itself into a viewing platform over Lake Lugano and the surrounding mountains — described as "an oasis of peace only a stone's throw from downtown Lugano."
