JAPAN RAIL PASS is a ticket offered jointly by the six JR Group companies, and it is convenient and reasonably priced for traveling throughout Japan by train.
Haneda – Tokyo Monorail (Haneda – Hamamatsucho)
You can freely enter and exit via the staffed ticket gates by presenting your rail pass. No additional fare is required.
Narita – Narita Express (N’EX)
This is a JR Limited Express train. Seat reservations are required in advance.
Kansai – JR Kansai Airport Rapid Service
You can board directly from the JR Kansai Airport Station without extra charges.
New Chitose – JR Rapid Airport to Sapporo
This is a special airport express train operated by JR Hokkaido.
Airport lines not covered by the pass:
Chubu Centrair Airport, Fukuoka Airport
You can book a reserved seat on the dedicated website. Do not forget to pick up the reserved seat ticket at the reserved seat ticket machine or “Midori-no-madoguchi” (ticket office) located at JR stations.
Or by using a reserved seat ticket machine located at JR stations, you can book and issue a reserved seat ticket for the JAPAN RAIL PASS without waiting in line at the "Midori-no-madoguchi" (ticket office). Manual here.
You have to (within 3 months from issue day) turn in your Exchange Order with your passport to receive your JAPAN RAIL PASS at a exchange office. JAPAN RAIL PASS exchange and sales offices here
With a JAPAN RAIL PASS, you can go through the automatic ticket gates.
