How do I choose the right rail pass?

Last updated:2025/08/27

To begin, you should have a general idea of which countries you plan to visit and how many days you’ll be traveling by train.

Rail passes vary based on the countries they cover, and you'll also need to choose the number of travel days.

For example, if you're spending 14 days in Switzerland, Italy, and Germany, but only plan to take the train on 7 of those days, you can choose a pass like “Eurail Global Pass – 7 days within 1 month.”

You can take multiple trains on each travel day — there’s no limit.

If you plan to use the train more frequently, you can also consider a 15-day consecutive pass, or a 10-day or 15-day flexible pass valid within 2 months.

You’ll also need to choose between First Class and Second Class:

  • First Class offers more spacious seating, larger luggage areas, and often a quieter, more comfortable environment.

Many rail passes offer discounted prices for children, youth, or seniors — be sure to check the detailed eligibility rules on the product page.
