Detailed Itinerary

Itinerary Overview
Collapse

This river cruise cycling adventure departs from Passau, Germany, famously known as the "Venice of Bavaria," and follows the historic route of the once-glorious Austro-Hungarian Empire. Along the way, you’ll visit three of Europe’s most charming capitals: Vienna (the Waltz Metropolis), Bratislava (the Coronation City), and Budapest (the "Paris of the East").

The cycling route takes you through the romantic Great Loop of the Danube (Schlögener Donauschlinge), picturesque riverbanks, Hungary’s iconic cathedrals, and the legendary Wachau Valley. Charming villages, opulent palaces, and historic castles along the river are all UNESCO World Heritage sites.

On two wheels, you’ll experience the natural beauty up close. The cycling guide will point out coffee stops, scenic spots, and picnic locations—allowing you to explore the villages and riverside towns beyond what can be seen from the river cruise alone.

Onboard the comfortable river cruise, you can enjoy a unique holiday atmosphere: spacious cabins, deck pool, onboard cafés, and restaurants serving delicious meals. This relaxed cycling journey promises memories to treasure.

After dinner each evening, the guide will review the next day’s route, answer your questions, and share tips on where to find good rest stops or interesting places along the way. Most cycling routes are classified as “easy,” as they are largely flat. However, depending on the weather and wind conditions, some days may feel more challenging.

The water bottle is yours to keep, but all other items must be returned at the end of the trip. Any damage may incur additional charges. Whether you need to bring your own helmet depends on the tour you book. For the Danube Four Countries Bike & Cruise, you must bring your own helmet or purchase one on board (approx. €25; note that child helmets must be self-provided). For all other tours, helmets are provided. You may also choose to purchase a Closca folding helmet from Spain through us at €90 each.

Turning back is usually not an option, as the ship will be waiting for you in the next city. We recommend preparing a proper raincoat in advance; a two-piece set (separate jacket and pants) is more suitable for cycling. Please note that raincoats are neither provided nor sold on board.

What should I do if my bike breaks down or gets stolen?

You will be assigned your own bicycle for the entire trip. Please take care of it as if it were your own property. Always lock the bike when leaving it unattended. In case of severe damage caused by improper use, or if the bicycle is stolen, you will be responsible for the cost of compensation.
