Valley Cableways – Direct Access to the Aletsch Highlands

  • The valley cable cars connect you directly from the valley floor to the car-free alpine villages of Riederalp, Bettmeralp, and Fiescheralp.
  • Although the Aletsch Arena is a car-free zone, that doesn’t mean it’s hard to reach — on the contrary, it’s both easy and scenic!
  • You can comfortably reach the high plateau via valley cable cars from the following base stations:

Travel Times (One-Way)

  • Fiesch Train Station → Eggishorn: approx. 40 minutes
  • Betten Train Station → Bettmerhorn: approx. 80 minutes
  • Morel Train Station → Moosfluh: approx. 100 minutes
  • Morel Train Station → Riederalp West: approx. 20 minutes

Recommended Hiking Routes

 

  • Glacier Trail / 5–6 hrs / Easy
    A scenic glacier-side trail taking about 5 to 6 hours.
    Route: Riederalp → Cable Car to Hohfluh (2227 m) → Alte Stafel → Roti Chumme → Märjelensee → Fiescheralp (2200 m) → Cable Car to Fiesch → Train to Morel → Cable Car to Riederalp
  • Suspension Bridge Trail / 5 hrs / Moderate
    A thrilling 5-hour hike that includes a long suspension bridge crossing the glacier, plus the biologically rich Aletsch Forest.
    Route: Riederalp (1925 m) → Cable Car to Morel (759 m) → Train to Brig (678 m) → Bus to Blatten (1327 m) → Cable Car to Belalp (2094 m) → Hotel Belalp (2130 m) → Suspension Bridge (Hängebrücke) → Aletsch Forest → Riederfurka Restaurant (2065 m) → Riederalp (1925 m)

    Highlights : The Aletsch Forest is home to ancient and diverse alpine flora, making it a true reward for any hiker.

  • Glacier Hiking / 7–8 hrs / Hard (Guide Required)
    A full-day hike with 2 hours spent walking directly on the glacier (with a certified mountain guide).
    Route: Hohfluh (2227 m) → Alte Stafel / Chatzulecher → Guided Glacier Trek → Riederfurka (2021 m) → Riederalp
  • Two-Day Glacier Crossing / Hard (Guide Required)
    A challenging and unforgettable two-day glacier crossing experience.
    Approx. 6–7 hours of glacier hiking each day, with overnight at a mountain hut.
    Route: Riederalp (1925 m) → Riederfurka (2065 m) → Konkordiahütte (2650 m) → Jungfraujoch (3454 m) → Train to Grindelwald
