• Nordkette Mountain in Innsbruck is located within Karwendel Nature Park, Austria’s largest nature reserve. Known as the “Top of Innsbruck,” the summit offers a stunning 360-degree view of both the city and the surrounding alpine landscape. Within just 20 minutes, the cable car takes you from the historic old town of Innsbruck to alpine terrain at around 2,000 meters above sea level. Cable cars run approximately every 15 minutes.
• The journey starts from Congress Station in Innsbruck and ascends all the way to Hafelekar, the “Top of Innsbruck,” at 2,256 meters above sea level. The route includes: Congress (560m), Lowenhaus (560m), Alpenzoo (750m), Hungerburg (860m), Seegrube (1,905m), and Hafelekar (2,256m). Along the way, visitors can access various outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, climbing, and skiing. Trail maps are available for download. Alpenzoo, located along the route, is the highest-elevation zoo in Europe and requires a separate admission ticket.
• The Hungerburg station was designed by renowned architect Zaha Hadid. Its most iconic feature is the roof, which resembles natural layers of ice and glacier tones, gracefully flowing above the movement of passengers below.

  The architectural masterpiece by Zaha Hadid in the Nordkette area is the Hungerburgbahn station. She designed the cable car system from Innsbruck city center to Hungerburg, which includes four stations: Congress, Löwenhaus, Alpenzoo, and Hungerburg. The architectural style showcases Hadid’s signature streamlined design, featuring futuristic glass and steel structures. The station’s shape is inspired by glaciers and natural curves, with an exterior resembling snow-covered mountain peaks that perfectly complement the surrounding Alpine scenery. Hadid’s design is not only modern but also harmoniously integrates with the natural environment.

   

• Recommended Hiking Trail: Nordkette Perspectives Trail
  Located close to the Seegrubenbahn station, which was designed by architect Franz Baumann in the mid-20th century, blending nature and technology perfectly. Here, the famous architecture firm Snøhetta designed the Nordkette Perspectives Trail.
  This is a short and easy trail, suitable even for families with children, leading to the Großer Stein rest area where you can enjoy stunning views in a peaceful atmosphere. From top to bottom, the entire Inn Valley stretches before your eyes. Sit down, relax, and lose track of time.
