What is the difference in discounts when buying Pilatus tickets with a Swiss Travel Pass or a Eurail Pass?

It can be divided into two situations: Golden Round Trip and Non-Golden Round Trip.

 

| Golden Round Trip period: mid-May to mid-October
 

Holding a Swiss Travel Pass (STP)

 

  • Ferry from Lucerne to Alpnachstad: free
  • Bus from Kriens to Lucerne: free
  • You only need to purchase the cogwheel train plus two cable car sections, and all three sections have approximately 50% STP discounts.

 

Holding a Eurail Global Pass

 

  • Boat and bus are not included and must be purchased separately
  • Cogwheel train and cable cars have approximately 50% discounts

 

Summary

 

  • Swiss Travel Pass: greater savings (boat and bus are free)
  • Eurail Pass: additional cost for boat and bus

 

| Non-Golden Round Trip period (outside mid-May to mid-October)

 

Only the Kriens – Pilatus Kulm – Kriens cable car is in operation.

 

  • Holding STP or Eurail (same conditions)
  • Cable car Kriens ↔ Pilatus Kulm: approximately 50% discount

 

! Differences

 

  • Eurail Pass: the bus between Lucerne and Kriens must be purchased separately
  • Swiss Travel Pass: the bus is free
